Whether you’re a flower person or not, flowers are still likely to feature heavily in your wedding day preparations and if you don’t know a gerbera from a carnation, chances are you’re feeling a little stressed. Here’s a few questions which can help you choose a florist that you’re comfortable with and confident will do a great job.
What Style do You Specialise In?
Ask the florist whether they specialise in modern, traditional or romantic flowers and then ask to see some samples of their work. The more bouquets you see, the more likely you will find the style that you like and get a feeling for the flowers which appeal to you. Ask if they have any testimonials or recent brides that you can speak to in the area.
Can you Make Suggestions for my Colour Scheme?
A good florist should be able to offer several options for flowers which match your colour scheme. She should be able to advise on their suitability for the type of year and on flowers which are more likely to wilt than others. She should also be able to make suggestions for buttonhole flowers and table setting and venue flowers.
Can You Work Within My Budget
Ask whether your florist can work within your budget and whether she can offer any cost saving options such as flowers that create a similar effect but are cheaper, using seasonal flowers, and so on.
Are You Familiar with My Venue?
Ask whether she is familiar with your chosen venue and can show you any photos of displays that she has done there. If not, ask whether she would be prepared to meet at the venue to discuss ideas. Also find out how many events she caters for per day so you can get an idea on how long she is likely to spend doing just your flowers. Other questions involve finding out whether she will be doing the flowers herself or a member of staff.
What Items can You Rent to Me?
Some florists are able to rent out large urns, arches, potted plants, and pew bows to assist with your decorations.
Is Delivery Included, and if Not What is the Cost?
Some florists deliver whilst others don’t. Find out for sure because otherwise you could be making a trip across town on the morning of your wedding.
Is the Set Up of Flowers at the Ceremony and Reception Sites Included?
Don’t assume that because the flowers are delivered they will be set up. If this option isn’t included you may need to appoint someone to do this for you.
How Much Deposit is Required and When is the Final Payment Due?
Find out the answers to both of these questions and also ask abut their cancellation policy.
Do You Handle Preservation?
Some brides like to have their bouquet preserved, so enquire whether your florist can handle this.
Make sure you’re totally satisfied with all of the answers to these questions before signing on the dotted line.
