We have so many beautiful South African real weddings on site, all unique and featuring lots of fabulous detail. As part of our inspiration special it made sense to revisit some of our real wedding couples to find out what inspired them when it came to the amazing details of their day.
Madrileen and Stefan — Fun Photography
Real wedding couple Madrileen and Stefan tried to include as much of their fun personality as possible in their wedding, and this showed through fun, informal photography and quirky props.
“The photographer is a friend of ours and knew we wanted something different, so she brought the props”, says Madrileen. “We let her decide how to structure the pictures too, but told her in advance we don’t just want posed photography and we wanted some informal and relaxed shots too. Our favourite thing about our wedding photos is that we both look relaxed and are laughing.
“I recommend that you make the traditional wedding idea your own — change it to suit both your tastes and personalities. We only get married once, so do everything you really want on your big day!”
Carien and Phil — Cool Transport
The Couple: Carien & Phil
Wedding date: 27th October 2013
Venue: Lothian Vineyards
Carien and Phil incorporated Carien’s bright red Vespa into their wedding, even though Phil is terrified of the bike! It meant a lot to the bride to include her beloved Vespa, and created some truly unique photos.
“I always wanted the Vespa to be part of my wedding photos. I loved the colour contrast of the bright red against Phil’s charcoal suit and my off-white dress and blue hydrangeas. We were so happy with the result — what would have made it better is if we’d had even more Vespas in the pictures. Maybe the whole wedding party on them...maybe I will do that for our ten year vow renewal...
“I would recommend that other brides think outside the box too, and not just when it comes to transport. It’s your one day that you can do whatever your heart desires, so take it!”

Natasha and JP — Fairytale Dress
The Couple: Natasha & JP
Wedding date: 2nd March 2013
Venue: The Nutcracker
Natasha chose to wear a totally unique, custom-made wedding dress for her wedding to JP. She was able to wear the dress of her dreams and be one of a kind on her day.
“I wanted a wedding dress with WOW factor, and I’d seen so many pretty white dresses, but they were not what I was looking for. They were all extremely expensive too, so when someone suggested a place that did custom-made dresses that were much cheaper, I looked into it.
“I loved dresses with lots of floral detail and non-traditional colours. The final design was exactly what I imagined and more, I felt like a true princess in my dress. I would absolutely recommend a bride goes down the custom design route; I was so pleased with mine!“

Neisha and Alessandro — Quirky Cake
A cheetah-print wedding cake took pride of place at Neisha and Alessandro’s wedding. The unique cake was a real talking point for the guests and was inspired by Neisha’s love of animal print.
“I’ve always had an obsessive passion for cheetah print, and since my fabulous South African wedding had a distinctive chic African flavour to it, I naturally wanted to have cheetah print included somewhere. If my exquisite cheetah-print cake wasn’t enough, I also had leopard print shoes!
“As well as my South African friends and family, we had many Italian guests at the wedding, and they’d never seen anything like it — they raved about it! It tasted delicious, too. I’d absolutely recommend that brides reflect their theme in their cake. Whatever it may be that you have a passion for, go right ahead, have fun and bring it into your cake!”

Teagan-Leigh and Louwrens — Bridal Beauty
Teagan-Leigh opted for an elegant up-do and timeless makeup for her wedding to Louwrens. The sophisticated hairstyle, which featured loose curled tendrils, went perfectly with her detailed dress.
“I decided on an elegant and romantic look for my wedding style because since I can remember I wanted to feel like princess on my wedding day. I knew that I would never have been able to pull that look off on my own.
“Having a professional do my hair and make-up made the day so much easier and helped me to switch off for those few hours and just take everything in. I had gone for numerous make-up and hair trials until I was absolutely happy. This also made it one less thing to worry about on the day. They came in and did an amazing job while all I had to do was to sit back and relax.
“I would definitely advise all brides to hire professionals to help them on their big day. You can sit back, relax and let the pros do their magic. I would however recommend that you go for enough trials before the day so that you know that the look that they are going to do for you is exactly what you want. It also helps them, knowing exactly where to start on the day!”
