Portugal Overview

If you're looking for a honeymoon location from which you can visit plenty of sights whilst soaking up the sun and cultural atmosphere then Portugal might be the perfect honeymoon location for you. Not much bigger than Scotland there's gorgeous beaches in the south, rugged mountains and waterfalls in the centre and green fertile mountains covered with trees and vines in the north so whatever you fancy doing, it's never far away.

When in Portugal, put on some comfy shoes and walk your way round the fascinating castles and palaces to be found in most of the larger cities. With regular flights from South Africa, you could be exploring the Castelo de Sao Jorge, which looms over Lisbon, in just over 19 hours. Sightseeing in Portugal includes unlimited historical structures such as the Belem tower built back in the early 1500's which is constructed in a Portuguese Gothic style. The north is full of wonderful mountains in which to hike and it also has some of the best spa resorts in which to rest those weary muscles. Why not visit a winery and sample some fabulous local wines or time your visit to coincide with the traditional annual grape festival held in Logrono around September time. However you spend your honeymoon in Portugal you'll have an unforgettable time.
