Marriage Requirements

To get married be prepared for it to take up to 6 days to sort out the relevant paperwork once you arrive in Egypt. A couple will need to prove that they are both free to marry and this can be done at the South African Embassy in Cairo. A valid 10 year passport and birth certificates will need to be taken together with an affidavit written in both English and Arabic. The affidavit will then have to be presented to the Egyptian Ministry of Affairs in order for it to be legalised. Once this has taken place it is valid for one month and needs to be presented  to the Ministry of Justice where a civil ceremony can be performed.  The service will be carried out in Arabic so you may want to use the services of an interpreter.
