There is no waiting period for weddings in Costa Rica so once the paperwork has been presented, a couple can get married almost upon arrival. A local lawyer can normally handle the paper work for you and you will need to give him the following information. Full names of both parties, together with ages and nationalities and place of birth. Passport numbers, address and occupations of both parties as well as the full name and nationality of the father and maiden name and nationality of the mother. It will also be necessary to give full details of both witnesses. Couples need to take with them valid passports as well as two copies, together with copies of the witnesses' passports. On arrival they will have to swear that the information they have given is correct. After the ceremony has taken place a marriage certificate is filed in Costa Rica.
