Marriage Requirements

Chilean consuls do not have the authority to legalise civil wedding ceremonies so it is preferable to have a marriage certificate legalised in Chile prior to holding a religious ceremony. Your marriage certificate needs to be registered at the Consulate of Chile for your particular country. Both parties need to be present and will have to present valid passports, together with birth certificates. All documents need to be translated into Spanish and notarised. The documentation is then sent to the Civil Registration and Identification service which can take as long as six months. The fee depends upon the consulate.
