Adding glamorous touches to your wedding day doesn’t have to break the bank. You can have a decadent and stylish wedding easily, with the right decorative touches. We got in touch with Kimberley Lomas from Natural Nostalgia, a wedding planning and decoration service which focuses on elegant vintage décor, with elements inspired by nature, to get her advice on what makes a wedding day truly glamorous.

What are your wedding décor must haves, when planning a glamorous wedding?

My wedding décor must haves are unique and personalised items that are used in different and quirky spaces. Wall art is one of my favourites; whether it’s a love poem displayed across a wall or giant letters hanging from trees. I also love anything natural, so the more Mother Nature is involved, the better!

In your opinion, what makes a wedding theme truly glamorous?

Even if your tastes are more rustic or natural, you can still make your theme glamorous. In true vintage style you can add lots of crystals, pearls and pewter, or another dark mineral tone such as gold or bronze. These materials instantly add glamour to any event, and will pick up any other more natural and neutral tones you may have.

What about lighting to create a glamorous atmosphere?

Lighting is so important and can help create a glamorous 1920s ‘Great Gatsby’ vibe, with just a simple abundance of fairy lights and flickering candles.

What favours would you recommend to continue the decadent theme?

Favours are always dependent on budget, and these days it is acceptable to give a decadent treat wrapped in a beautiful box, accentuated with ribbon and pearl décor. Think a stack of macaroons, tied with luxurious lace and ribbon, and a delightful dessert wine for the men.

When it comes to colours schemes, what do you think would work best?

I’d recommend ivory, cream or biscuit beige with strong metal contrast such as silver, gold or bronze, teamed with luxurious accents such as pearls and lace.

What centrepieces would you suggest for the tables to enhance the glamorous atmosphere?

Crystal centrepieces would be my first suggestion, or ordinary centrepieces enhanced by crystal balls or drops. Decadent and indulgent floral arrangements should be used in abundance. I also love glass holders of varying heights, with a silver or rim to place candles on, to create different heights around your centrepieces.

hitched.co.za Top Tips for the Ultimate Glamorous Affair:

Pick a venue that suits your theme: it’s easier to work with what is already there than to start from scratch.

Suggest a dress code. By asking your guests to wear evening wear or their finest clothes, you’ll help create a glamorous atmosphere.

Get glam at any budget by adding some sparkle — glitter makes everything look more luxurious.

Consider an old school Hollywood style band instead of a DJ.

Pick a fancy menu and spend as much as you can on drink — if it’s got bubbles in it, it’ll feel more expensive!
