This speech would traditionally begin by welcoming the groom’s parents and relatives as well as all other guests. He would then say a few words about how proud he is of hi daughter and how beautiful she looks on her special day. The father of the bride will then conclude his speech by wishing the newly weds a long and happy life together. He would then call upon the best man to make his speech.
The best man speech is usually the one that all guests look forward to. It is often very humorous and reflects upon all the funny experiences he and the groom have had throughout their friendship. The bridesmaids would usually call upon the best man to make his speech.
The groom should begin his speech by thanking his parents for their love and support throughout his life. He should thank his guests for sharing in his and his bride’s special day and show his appreciation for all the gifts they have given. The groom also needs to mention all those family members or friends who could not be at the wedding due to illness and wish them a speedy recovery. Finally, the groom would traditionally thank the bridesmaids and present them with gifts as tokens of appreciation.
It is becoming more common for the bride to speak at their wedding also. There is no traditional etiquette or things to mention in the bride’s speech and it can be as humorous as she wants it to be. She may say as much or as little as she wishes and can also reflect on her love for her new husband.
